Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining finger-ring retractor with a cam ratchet lock used for holding back tissue and exposing a surgical site. It has curved shanks that lead to blades with between two and six sharp or blunt, outward-curving prongs. The prongs interdigitate when the instrument is closed. We have a large collection of weitlaner self-retaining retractors with multiple sizes in the slot.

  • Purpose:

Exposure: The Weitlaner retractor is designed to keep incisions open and expose underlying structures, making it particularly useful in surgeries involving the abdomen, thorax, and other areas where deep access is required.

  • Stability: It allows the surgeon to maintain a stable field of view without the need for continuous manual support, enhancing precision during the procedure.

Types:

  • Self-Retaining: The Weitlaner retractor is typically a self-retaining type, meaning it has a mechanism that holds it in place once positioned, freeing up the surgeon's hands for other tasks.

Considerations:

  • Tissue Protection: To minimize trauma and discomfort, care should be taken to avoid excessive pressure on surrounding tissues.
  • Size and Configuration: Weitlaner retractors come in various sizes and configurations to accommodate different surgical needs and patient anatomies.
  • Sterilization: As with all surgical instruments, proper sterilization before and after use is essential to prevent infection.
